Intergenerational Mediation

The generation gap is still with us. Family issues between teens and their parents abound. Since teenagers are loath to be referred to as "sick" and in need of "therapy," they are often very willing to participate in mediation because they consider it a more legitimate means to work out mutually acceptable living arrangements. They may also already be using mediation at school to work out their peer difficulties and therefore are already familiar with how mediation can be successful. On the other generational side we have issues around aging parents who may need specialized health care, supervision and possibly help with estate planning. Again mediation is very helpful in working out problems with health care providers, residential snags, sorting out supervision difficulties with the supporting children and working with the estate to help the adults peacefully pass on their legacy to their children in a timely, fair and equitable way with minimal disruption to the extended family.
