ABOUT HEALTH
MAINTENANCE ORGANIZATIONS AND FEES In the last
few years I have taken a very hard stand against Health Maintenance
Organizations. I refuse
to turn my practice over to business.
While I believe that health care providers may have in a sense
brought on the current crises in health care by conducting themselves
often in unprofessional and unethical ways, I do not believe the
answer is in turning health care over to business men and women,
lawyers, or judges. I
want my therapy practice to be free standing, confidential, respectful
and at a reasonable fee. To
this end I refuse to participate in HMO’s even if this means that
eventually I will go out of business.
Although I worry about this, so far I have no trouble
maintaining a full client case load.
For this I am very grateful to my clients who often forego some
health insurance in order to work with me.
I do participate in a few Preferred Provider Panels as long as
they are not closely managed and I do accept all indemnity health
insurance plans such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield.
