How Does Divorce Mediation Work?

The mediator will have an initial meeting where he or she will describe the process of mediation, as well as issues which will be settled (e.g. property division, custody of children, support payments, etc.).  During the ensuing meetings, the mediator facilitates communication, offers guidance in decision making, and promotes viable alternatives to resolve difficult issues. Short and long-term goals, needs and aspirations, plus explicit issues are considered.
Once the decisions are made and agreed upon, they are incorporated into a Memorandum of Understanding which is then forwarded to the reviewing attorneys.
